Okay where to start.... please bare with me as I am fairly new to boating. Its hard to explain but here goes. So last year on rare occasion my 98 horizon SX would loose power, it was almost like the prop was slipping. I would be driving and all of a sudden the motor would rev but no power to the water, as soon as I let up and put the boat in neutral it would be fine. it only happened maybe 3 times last year but has me worried. I would be doing circles and all of a sudden loose its bite in the water. any ideas? Sorry about the terrible explanation Thanks |

Sounds like a spun hub. Remove prop and replace hub if so equipped, or replace prop. Read this, and see if it sounds familiar. http://www.boatingmag.com/how-to-tell-i ... peller-hub |

If it only occurs during a tight turn, then it is ventilation of the prop caused by one of several things. 1. Are you trimming the motor all the way down before starting the turn? If not, this is probably the problem as the boat will push water away from the motor. 2. What boat, motor, prop do you have? Aluminum props do not hold up to heavy loads and do not have the same bite as a good Stainless Steel prop. SS props have better performance due to the ability to hold a complex shape. |
