I'd create an automatic search on ebay and have it notify you when a set is up for sale. I think I paid $600 for my spare set. I took them out to Midwest Propeller (terrific place) and asked them to give 'em the once-over. They said they appeared to have never been used and there was nothing to be done to them.

If you were nearby I'd certainly let you borrow them.

Thanks Mike!
I know somebody on the board would help us out if we were really stuck but for now it's just a matter of "putting feelers out" and sooner or later something will show up.

I am watching ebay now. There seems to be alot of F4 out there but not many F5's. What about going with an aluminum set? The composites are not available for the duoprop setups.

Personally I'd hold out for SS. A set will come along eventually, I'm sure.

Marc, we are on the same quest. I'm looking for a set too. I'm going to try my local prop guy to see if I can try a set.

I see this set sold for $580! A little less than I thought but not by much! I talked to a guy who is the Canadian distributor for Piranha composite props and he also sells new stainless units. He told me that he can't even get another brand of prop other than Volvo for the duoprops (SS or composite). Piranha makes the composites for Volvo and he can only get those by hassling piranha saying he is trying to service one of his customers (around $700). He does have aluminum units available for duoprops but did not recommend them for permanent use on our boats. As a spare set they would be fine though.

St. Louis Dave: Any luck from your end?

I am bidding on these currently

If I get them for a cheap enough price, I will use them for some tests and then since I am happy enough with the F6 performance, I will keep them aboard as a spare set until I can find set of stainless F5's to replace the F6's. Then I will probably sell either the aluminum ones or the F6's.

Marc, do you really think you are going to get a fair comparison using the aluminum props compared to the SS? Maybe it will allow you to get your RPM back, but I bet you will lose a lot in performance.

I'm still looking. I've got a line off Craigslist, but nothing concrete yet.

Dave, I was outbid on the prop set this morning when I checked but that is a good thing! I am amazed that somebody else didn't catch this but we would need "D" series aluminum props not "B" series for our outdrives. I was going to retract my bid this morning if I wasn't outbid. I don't know why this came to me this morning but I was laying in bed at 5:30 when it struck me that the hubs didn't look quite right so I did a little research on the West Marine site and low and behold those props would not have worked for me. Thank God I caught it and now I don't have the hassle of trying to resell them.
I will keep on looking :x

Marc, I am going to pass on the F5s for now. The guy wants $600+ shipping. Do you want them? I'll forward you the info. He will be shipping from the Twin Cities, MN area.

That's about as good a price as you're going to find, assuming they're in excellent - new condition.

That does seem like a good enough deal but.. like you, I will pass for now... I ran the boat this weekend and I am very happy with the current performance... I have spent way too much from my "maintenance" budget this year to justify the expenditure on a prop set... I will wait until I really have to buy one or else I will look again next year (next winter will probably be the ideal time)

I put 215 litres (about 57 US gallons) and it cost me $290.00 on Saturday morning so i am definitely thinking the same thing (but didn't want to mention it in case I got the "you gotta pay to play" speach).

I estimate I used about $125-$150 dollars this weekend by running/puttering for about 5 hours. We spent all weekend on the water but alot of it was just sitting.

An empty tank would cost me over $500.00 to fill and you will probably looking at a $350 fill. I think I am going to have to swallow my pride and put my hand out as people get on or off the boat!

I love the boat and wouldn't be with out it, but it is expensive to run. I can't imagine what the folks in the go fasts and RV boats are saying. We had 8 of us all day yesterday on it and had a blast. Tons of room for everyone to stretch out and relax. Pulled the kids in the tube for miles, and had a nice swim in a private cove. We just have to keep saving our pennies to put gas in it. Maybe I'm glad we only get to boat half the year!

I bit the bullet and bought the F5s. I hope to have them by next weekend so I can compare and give some good feedback. I bought the Seloc manual for the Volvo and am reading my 7.4GSI can run up to 5200RPM. According to my tach, I am only pushing 4400 now with the F6s. I would love to pick up another 200-400 RPM with the new props. I also noticed my F6s are dinged up a bit so that may be affecting my performance a little too.

I'll post results once I put them on.

Marc, keep shopping.
