I replace those Perko gas caps every couple of years. Another thing esp if you are forced to use E-10 gas is to change the fuel filter each season and pour out the old one into a large mason jar. Let it sit and look for a layer of water on the bottom. This will alert you to problems before they destroy expensive pumps. If you have water in the fuel you really have to deal with it, esp with boats where it sits for a long period of time. I still have the original mechanical fuel pump on my old boat. I bought a new one for a spare last year I think it was about $100 or so.

The basic issues with marine EFI are the water in the gas issue, and also the fact that the system cannot be set up like an automotive system where it pushes the fuel from the tank to the engine. Because of safety concerns (ruptured fuel line) the pump is on the engine instead of in the tank and must suck gas from the tank. Any restriction (fuel filter, anti siphon valve, blocked vent) will put strain on the pump that does not happen in an automotive system. So these maintenance items should be looked at regularly, including the terminals for the wiring on the pump.
