So, I've got a 2011 H200 with the 5.0 Merc - 260hp. Yesterday I did some tubing and wake boarding with some friends and the boat seemed to be struggling. Not sure that I have ever had to struggle to plane before but it was a challenge last night.

What might be some very common performance issues that could creep up during the season. I'm thinking maybe my air intake is due for a cleaning or something simple like that? New plugs (but it's running fairly smooth)?

Suggestions?

P.S. Just by chance I had done some WOT runs earlier in the day since it was just me in the boat. I used to get about 54mph when it was new but have put on a tower, a Merc Hi5 prop (same pitch) and added a Perfect Pass GPS speedo and now only get 44mph @ 4400. That might not be abnormal but it just felt like it was missing the roar that it used to have.

Thanks for any feedback.

I would start with cleaning the air filter assembly.
The change the plugs.
Also make sure there is no water in the bilge area.

The Hi5 will not run as fast as a 3 blade top end.
But it will give you better hole shot.

A dirty air intake spark arrestor screen could certainly restrict your WOT performance. Due to the air restriction, it would be like not being able to push to full throttle. However, the dirty screen would have less effect on low end torque...which you seem to be having an issue with as well (trouble getting on plane). Cleaning the screen should be done at least once/year or 50 hours.

Someone else with Hi-5 prop experience might chime in to tell you if the same pitch prop was the right choice, or if you should have gone with less pitch. I can't say, but my guess is the same pitch would not cause this problem.

I would also consider if you have 1 cylinder not operating. Removing and examining your spark plugs would tell you this. An engine will still run smoothly if 1 cylinder is not working at all. It only runs rough if the cylinder is intermittent.
