Post subject:  Oil Pressure

Hi everyone,

I have a 2005 horizon 230/240 with a 5.7 GXI-F in it. My oil pressure varies a little and I wanted to see if anyone else notices the same thing. If I have my RPMs around 3500-4000 the oil pressure gauge will usually show 40. If the engine is warm and I am idling it will usually be at 20... Sometimes just below. Any thoughts on whether this is normal or not is greatly appreciated!

It sounds very normal. As the engine oil warms it gets thinner and oil pressure is less at idle. Most marine engines do not have an oil cooler. The harder and longer you run it the more heat and thinner the oil. It takes a while for the oil to cool.

I have the same model and have to say, that seems low to me. It will vary depending on RPM's and engine temperature, but I'd expect it to always be in the 40-60 range. What oil are you using?

It's also possible that your gauge, sender, or the connection between them has an issue.

Mine is about 60 at speed, 40 at idle except after coming off plane were it drops to 20, but after the oil cools it goes back to 40.
The idle readings are also affected by idle speed; if your idle is set very low it can drop as low as 10-15 psi....
