Post subject:  Volvo outdrive ?

Hi everyone! I am new to this forum. I currently own a '99 225 Sundowner. I am in urgent need of help regarding info on replacing my outdrive due to striking an underwater dead-head last season. The reason for the urgency is I have found a replacement on Ebay that ends tomorrow. The outdrive I currently have is a Volvo Penta SX cobra with a 1:60 ratio mated to a 5.0Gi. My question is if a 1:66 ratio Volvo Penta drive will work and mate up with my engine without any major issues? I don't like making this my first post, but any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The are are only 3 ratios as far as I know, the "1.60" is probably the same as the "1,66"

I am still here, just haven't had much to add. An update to my earlier post is that the Ebay deal fell through. The guy I was getting the drive from found out that they have changed the Volvo penta transom assemblies the last few years, so it wouldn't work with my boat. The good news is I found another drive this weekend that was an identical match to the one I have. Cap'n Morgan, I see you are also from MI. I am in Muskegon, where are you located?

Hey 225. Another Muskegonite! That's great. Not many from the town post on boating boards. I thought I was the only one.

I slip our boat in Muskegon. Should launch next week. Stop in and see us sometime, we are there every weekend and many nights during the week. Only a 10 minute drive from home to the marina. Send me a PM if you want any specifics.

There are a few of us West Michigan folks lurking around here.....

Hey Cap'n, must be slim odds running into a fellow local on here. I wish my boat was back together. After the nice weather last weekend, I have the itch to get on the water. Unfortunatly, once the new outdrive gets put on my boat, I think we are going to put her up for sale :( . It has been a great boat, but we would like to move up to a Vista for the added space. Where do you slip your boat? Currently we trailer our Sundowner, but once we upgrade we will end up getting a slip. I have been looking into different slips. I am not sure which route to go(buy or rent). If you know of anyone looking for a good used cuddy, send them my way.

I would rent rather than buy. Short season in Michigan does not really justify purchasing a slip IMO. Are you ready to move up to a Vista this year if you sell your 225?

We were thinking of moving up to a Vista in maybe a year or two. If we don't sell our boat this year, I still hope to fit some time in to get out on the water and I will keep my eye out for your boat.

Building a house, and camping will take up much of your free time for sure. Hopefully you can still get out on the water sometime this summer.
