On my OB, one of the temp switches/sensors has a wire that is loose/disconnected. It's been this way since I bought the boat. I know, I know... I should have gotten it fixed a long time ago.
But I always figured that if I had water coming out of the flow port, then everything was fine. So, since I have nothing to do at work today, I started looking up parts for the boat. Specifically, the port-side temp switch for my motor: 0585203 - Temp switch assembly, port

This was the first price listing I came across:
http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=OMC585203
OMG!!!

I've since found a new one listed on ebay for about $100. Still a lot of money for a part that, rolled up, can fit in my palm with my fist closed!
There's got to be a place for less expensive parts, right? Or is this the cost of an OB versus all the other maintenance required with an I/O?
:(

Try
www.crowleymarine.com
Yes outboard parts are more expensive! Just think of all the BS maintenance I/Os need that you don't have to do on an OB, and smile when you pay the price!

Yeah, winterizing for me is a 2-step process:
1) Hold trim button down until motor stops moving
2) walk away

I'll look into Crowley, thanks.
Just need to quit sinking money into the Jeep right now.
...... . . . . . . . . ^^ (see what I did right there! )

Know what you mean!
Got 3 Jeeps but at least one is new (son's 17 Wrangler Unlimited). The 07 Hemi is my fav vehicle so far in 46 years of driving so I don't mind the repairs. The '98 Jeep is getting a restoration this summer...

Ugh....

Crowley would only save me $8...

The only thing wrong with my current temp switch is one of the wires pulled out of it.

I guess I only have $150 to lose in trying to fix it on my own!

I think there is a boat salvage place here near San Antonio....I'm gonna have to do some searching one day and see what I can find.

Still looking for a replacement temperature switch.
Pic is of the port side (one I'm looking for) on the left w/ white wire, and the starboard side on the right w/ brown wire.
I guess I could just replace the port side with the same as the starboard side but I think I'd lose the function of the temperature alarm.

Circling back around to this in case another OB person stumbles across the same issues.

A week ago I finally made time to run by a boat salvage yard here in San Antonio. I'd been meaning to try this place out for years now. Wife and daughter were out of town so I made the time!
I picked up a used temp sensor from an mid 90's Johnson V6. Paid $35 for the two wire sensor. Guy said if it didn't work, come back and get another one. :)

I ran the motor for about 30 minutes hard while at the lake on Sunday but didn't see any noticeable change in the temp gauge. Now I just need to test my gauge to make sure it's still working.
