Sounds silly I know but what is the official maximum rev range for a 3.0 merc. It will help when choosing a prop.
Thanks
Ardy

I looked at thier website....

http://www.mercurymarine.com/engines/in ... _specs.php

Acording to that, 4400-4800 rpm.
.... I don't know what that translates to in Metric.

FW180 with the stock package turns right up at 4800 rpm. Only thing i'm changing is going to a four blade prop with a slightly lower pitch. Should help the hole shot and not loose a bunch at the top end.

Two things to think about....
first, the 4 blade prop has more drag than the 3. So, you'll get the extra umph out of the whole without changing pitch, but lowering the pitch a point is a good idea to keep WOT RPM.
second, you'll have more bow lift, so won't need to trim up as much. But, you'll also have more torque, so you'll need to adjust your trim tab... if there is one installed. If not, you'll probably need to get one, or those arms WILL get tired of holding the wheel over.
