| Post subject: | Impeller oil alternative? |
I'm about to perform my engine maintenance on my 2006 244 Funship. I would like to know if there is an alternative impeller oil for my 5.7 GXI Volvo Penta engine. For clarity, this is the tiny packet of oil used that usually comes with a new impeller kit. This oil isn't readily available in my area. Thanks, Ray |

Vaseline. Pretty much all the oils/grease will wash off the impeller after a few minutes of running. It's only for the first start when the impeller is totally dry. Vaseline is mild and will not chemically destroy the rubber. |

Dish soap. The oil or soap is only used for easier application and lubing the impeller on initial startup |

Dish soap. I wouldn't use vaseline. |

The OEM sachet contains glycerine; non toxic, water soluble but lubricating enough when fitting the impellor/ initial start up. Any food store or pharmacy will have it I'm sure. |

Walmart sells a lifetime supply bottle of glycerin for a few bucks. |

Thanks, Ray I carry a small tube of silicone in my boat tool kit. I use a small squeeze of that and have also used soap. The silicone lube works on snaps and zippers too. |
