As posted in the "boating" forum, I've been fighting an overheat condition coming from the thermostat housing. General consensus is that it's a water flow issue. Today I took off the impeller housing and found most vanes to be oriented in the correct direction, but there were three that were oriented the opposite way.

This is my fault, as I assumed they would self-align after rotating at start-up. Does anyone think it's reasonable that the three mis-oriented vanes stay in the opposite direction during running? Doesn't really seem feasible to me, but I'm hoping that is the case.

I Replied to your iboats post. You might want to start with a new impeller.

Yeah, saw that. To be honest, the impeller looks ok (only ran three times) and it’s probably foolish of me to think the impeller vanes would not orient properly when running. Even though I tried to avoid rotating the housing when removing it, I suppose a slight turn in opposite direction could have caused the condition. Thermostat looks good. Only one year old, but will change anyways. Just can’t figure out why the housing is running hot.
