Anyone know off hand if this engine uses the Vortex heads and how many bolts are used on the main crankshaft bearing caps. The manual for the engine mentions a heavy duty and a light duty version with the heavy utilizing the 4 bolt main caps. Mine is a 5.7 GSI PWTR and have not been able to find any info on line regarding the heads or caps.

See if you can get the block # it will be on a tab back by the bell housing. Then look it up on a Chevy engine site.
Cyl head #s are right on the head you need to remove the valve cover to see it

The number on side of block is '880' and serial number is 4110188033 with VP par number 3868947. Still not able to find much even with this info.

Well off the top of my head the Vortec started post ‘96. You can tell by the # of bolts holding down the intake: 12 bolts = re Vortec, 8 bolts = Vortec. Also the pre Vortec bolts go into the intake manifold at an angle whereas the Vortec go in straight down. Do some more research on Chevy engine sites specifically Rapido Marine for the location of block and cyl head casting #s.
