You don’t have to use a Volvo filter; they don’t make their own no doubt it’s re branded. I use either Sierra or Merc marine filters. Even a Purolator from the auto parts store will be fine.

Unless you have a remote oil filter kit it is a bitch to get in my boat well port side at least. So i may switch to a K & N with the nut welded on it, for easier removal.

You can take whatever filter you are using and buy a cap wrench that fits it perfectly. Makes the job a lot easier....
Cap wrench + 3/8ths ratchet ftw!!

You can Google service bulletin P-21-7-1, it will tell you the differences of the part numbers you posted. In short both will work, 3850559 is longer than the 835440. I use Wix 51069.
