on a volvo dual prop, how should the props be arranged upon re-assembly? i would think they should go so that the blades are not on top of each other, but staggered. there is no keyway that allows them to be installed only one way. Thanks - Ryan |

Just put the prop in on the splines and that will do it. |

Don't forget to grease the prop shaft, OMC/Bombardier triple guard grease works great for shaft splines (waterproof marine grease). I have heard that Volvo DPs can be tough to remove if you don't grease em. |

Technically, they should be "timed," but not many people see any performance difference by doing so. On the other hand, if you already have them off, it doesn't take any more work to time them. It just means that you put the front prop on with two blades pointing to 10:00 & 2:00, and then put the rear on with one blade pointing to 12:00. The theory behind it is that you don't want the blades on both props passing each other right behind the drive, since that's an area of lower water pressure and so you'd have two blades (of the 6) not getting a full "bite" in the water. Dittos on greasing the shaft before installing them. They can become darn near impossible to remove if you don't. In addition to the products mentioned, Volvo makes a prop shaft grease (#1141644) that is more environmentally friendly than most greases. A "lifetime supply tub" runs around $20 IIRC. |

I always make a mark on each prop before I take them off to change the oil, that way there is no question of how they should go back on. |

Man!!! You guys are way over thinking this. There is NO way to time. Nor does it matter, they are counter rotating! No matter how you place/time them, both props will be Inline with each other at some point! |

Yes, but they need not pass each other at the same time they're passing the drive. Some folks have done A/B testing with this and found significant improvements with them timed. Most IMO do not. |
