I've heard local conflicting opinions on how well a muff on the outdrive with a hose as a water source performs in cooling the engine or get the engine to operating temperatures when out of the water. Want is the concensus with the folks in this forum?

They work just fine. You don't want to run the engine at over 1000 rpms for long. Idling on muffs usually took my 5.0s about 20 minutes. That's one of the reasons I installed a good flush kit. 20 minutes x 2 is gas wasted and a bunch of water. Now, 5 mintes on each engine without them running.
