I have a friend that has a 1986 Four Winns 16' Freedom it has a 3.0 GM I/O w/ alpha one 140 lower unit. It has a 3 blade 19.4 aluminium prop that he is looking to upgrade to a SS prop. It comes up on plane real quick now and cruises great about 30 mph w/5 people in the boat. What would be some good alternative sizes for him to use for a more top speed? |

Your buddy would want to go with a 21 pitch prop. This will increase the rpm and top speed but hinder the hole shot. Here's a link that may help...It has been posted here many times by Walt. http://www.go-fast.com/Prop_Slip_Calculator.htm |

Howdy, That prop slip calculator is a great tool, But there's really no way to determine what might be a "better" prop or correct pitch without knowing an accurate (WOT) speed (GPS), accurate RPM (from a verified tach) at that speed and the drive ratio. THEN you can use the Prop Slip calculator to determine which way to go with a prop. dbxtr3 wrote: I have a friend that has a 1986 Four Winns 16' Freedom it has a 3.0 GM I/O w/ alpha one 140 lower unit. Where is the best place online to buy a prop? What are some good brands and brands to avoid? |

There are many good prop shops. I can personally recommend Midwest Propeller. http://www.midwestpropeller.com. It's a small shop run by a guy and his son, located in the middle of Nowhere, Kansas (about 5 miles from me), and they work on props sent in from marinas all over the world. There is nothing they can't do where props are concerned. |
