I've got a problem with blowing the 15 amp fuse at the trim motor. It only happens in the water though, in the driveway the trim will go up and down all day long. I've looked under the throttle cover at the switch and wires look fine and I've looked at wiring around pump motor and looks fine there as well. Battery connections tight, etc... Boat is a 2003 Fw Horizon 210 with VP 5.0 and SX outdrive. Is there wiring that might be getting wet on the outdrive that could blow the fuse? I'm thinking somethings getting wet and shorting out, just a guess though. Just got the boat and VP manuals are in the works but would like to fix asap. Any help or advice appreciated.

Have the exact same problem. Trim fuse blows only when under power. Double check the amperage for your trim pump....mine came with a 10A fuse. I have a 2004 Horizon with the VP 4.3 SX and the trim pump just started acting up about a month ago. I've checked the fluid level and the color is good. I haven't digged deeply into the problem yet, but am wondering if there's a strainer or filter that may be clogged causing high pressure and overloading the motor. Fuse holder is never wet. One thing I did notice is that part of the rubber holder for the solenoids is broken at one end, although that should'nt be a factor (but I'll probably replace it). The switch in the handle does stick sometimes, so that'll be replaced first off. I think the motor just unscrews from the pump, so I'll do that and look inside. If you find anything out, let us know!!

I'm hoping someone will chime in here with good advice for us. Over the last few days I've spent a lot of hours reading everything on trim problems and can't find a fix yet.

Mine was low on fluid which made the Circuit Breaker to trip. (Had one of the rams rebuilt and they didn't refill the trim correctly) Filled it up and works better now. Every now and then we have a problem but few and far between.

I just found my problem. I pulled the control arm off and found the hot wire (red one) shredded around the arms base. Got her wired back up and am ready for the water now! Rick, pull the arm off and let us know what you find.

I'm glad you found your problem. I pulled the control arm today, and the wiring was just fine. While I had it apart, I did notice on the trim lever (the trim switch is actually 2 parts...the lever that reads "trim" that we press up and down, and the electrical rocker switch proper, in which the trim lever presses the up or down on the rocker switch) that there were some rub marks on the trim lever. I slightly ground it down, and applied a light grease to the edges and pins on the trim lever. It works smoothly now, but I don't think this will solve my problem. I did replace the 10A fuse with a 15A temporarily and it worked fine, but I don't like using the higher amp fuse, so I'm going back to the 10A and try it again.
