Hello All, I have a 1993 Sundowner 215 with a 5.0EFI I/O.

I currently have a no start condition that I am troubleshooting through. As I was winterizing the motor this past fall I was running the motor up to temp and after about 3 minutes it cut out and will not restart.

What I know:
- The battery is in perfect working order
- Fairly new anti syphon valve
- Starter cranks but no firing going on
- High Pressure Pump will prime when I turn key but I do not hear low pressure prime
- I disconnected LP pump gas line after pump and turned over and no gas came out
- LP Pump breaker was not tripped
- I "think I remember" having about 7V at the LP pump leads with key in on position

What I'd love to know:
- Is there any other tests (before I take pump out to bench test) to determine if LP pump is bad?
- What are other possible issues to look into other than the Low Pressure Fuel pump?

THAK YOU!!!!

I would loosen the fuel cap and retry and see if it primes. If you get lucky then it could be clogged fuel vent line.

These electric dual fuel pumps will usually whine as they start to fail. Is fuel filter ok and full of fuel? Only other thing thing I could think of is problem with pick up tube.

Well I think you have the answer right there. Why does the pump only have 7V? I’d run a jumper from the battery to the pump to put 12v to it and see if it runs. If not first check how the pump is supposed to be grounded to make sure there is a good return path. If the pump turns on with 12v jumped to it you need to find out why it is only getting 7V. Prob need to dig up a wiring diagram to figure it out.

Ok, so next question...

I took out the fuel pump to bench test and it is not pumping.

I am currently trying to "unclog" it with lacquer thinner and am having minimal luck so far.

So at the same time I am looking into buying a new pump and the part is discontinued by OMC. I even called my local (normally reliable) boat mechanic shop and they cannot find a part number for a replacement.

Any help would be great...

You may have to adapt a Volvo Penta fuel pump set up to your EFI system if they work on the same pressures (low press and high press). This is why I prefer carbs on old boats. Everything (nearly) is in the aftermarket and you can buy brand new Holley or Edelbrock carbs and mechanical fuel pumps.

I had a 93 5.0 EFI and they are just carter fuel pumps. The carter number is stamped on the side of the pump, ordered mine off Rock Auto, high and low pressure pumps listed below. Still available. They are the exact match to the factory pumps.
