The diagram http://www.marinepowerservice.com/Boati ... at1=450463 does not show how the housing comes out. (items #19 and #12) i have studied the gear housing on the bench for a couple of hours and cant figure it out. My celoc manual does not get that much in depth. - Thanks , ryan |

If you're determined to dismantle it, I'd recommend you get a factory manual; it's a lot more detailed than the aftermarket ones. The one I have is for the "WT" model year (=1999), part number 3850075. If you're not disturbing anything within the drive, when you're replacing the retainer it needs to go back in the same position, or you'll end up upsetting the gear lash/ rolling torque of the lower unit. The retaining ring ( #19) is unscrewed using a special tool that locates on the recesses in it's inner circumference. The VP tool number is 3855877-1. After removing the bearing retainer, the bearing housing (#12) is removed using a puller. The VP part number for that is 884789-9. If you can't borrrow or rent the tools, it might be possible to make something doing the job of the first tool using a flat plate, with a central hole to allow it to pass over the outer propshaft, with a number of bolts protruding through it to locate on the retaining ring. Good luck! Graham |

Howdy, Go over to iBoats and get into the sterndrive forum and ask DonS for the link to the online VP manuals. They'll need your model/serial numbers. The online manuals are still a completely free service I think. The Seloc and Clymer manuals will just get you in trouble. Regards, |
