I live in Southern Calif. so I have never thought much about winterizing. The water in my area even the local lake are really hard water. I was thinking just to clear the rust out of the engine and remember this product http://www.safestrustremover.com/default.asp . I know I can pull the exhaust and clean them out but what about the engine. Maybe this stuff would work? |

My thoughts after reading your post, if your worried about rust in the motor, you should upgrade to a closed cooling system. But you will always have raw water cooling something, be it a heat exchanger or the entire motor and exhaust manifolds. Best thing you can do for a raw water cooling system, is hook up the muffs in the driveway and flush system often. Also pull all plugs, drains, and hoses and check for any obstructions. Replace any components that need it. |

So I have a question: Moved into our new house and we now have well water. We have a system to remove all iron and a softener as well so the water I would be using for driveway running would be the soft water. Anything I should keep in mind? Any harm from the softened water? |

I was looking at the same thing for doing car washing. Maybe it now has 2 usages. I never thought of it. |

Soft water has less minerals in it, no harm to run through motor, in fact, less mineral build up!!! But the lake water, at least every lake I have been to, is very hard water. |

No benefit at all. All you will be doing is spending $ on to make the water soft that runs down the driveway and out to the street. If you are like me and have a pond that the street run off goes to, the gators might like the water a tad softer... ![]() |

While it does cost something for the soft water, I do like using it to wash the boat and cars in the driveway. Less water spots! |
