Well...............I've read the other posts on prop removal. I have a 2006 5.7GXI-G Duo Prop.

I have removed the rear prop and nut, I have the front prop nut off (Very Tight) I can't get the front prop off. I have been spraying it with liquid wrench, and gentle tapping for a day now. I am using a puller and the prop and hub seem to be separating. When I do get it of, I'll probably have to take it to a prop shop.

Any Ideas of getting this thing off?? Heat??

Worked most of the day on the front prop to no avail. I have the chain type puller and now I definately need to have the prop touched up!!!

Did you get it off? I have read no heat. Keep pulling and obviously replace the hub in the prop. Now you know why I bought the GOOD grease!

About the best grease I have ever used, that stands up to 6 months in salt water, is OMC/Bombardier Triple Guard Grease. I can put this on the propshaft in April, when I pull the boat out in Oct after 6 months in salt water, the prop just about falls off the propshaft. I use it on everything on the shift linkage and remote control linkages. Also I use it on all the door latches, etc on both of our vehicles. Great stuff.

Here's what Mercury suggests for those of us with the Dreaded Mercruiser drives :shock:

We recommend a liberal coat of one of the following Mercury Precision or Quicksilver Marine Lubricants on the propeller shaft: Special Lubricant 101, 2-4-C Marine Lubricant with Teflon, or Anti-Corrosion Grease. These lubricants are available from any authorized Mercury Marine dealer.

Note: Always use the correct mounting hardware and torque the propeller nut to the correct specifications. Verify the propeller tightness after 20 hours of operation. DO NOT operate the boat with a loose propeller.



I use The 2-4-C Marine Lubricant with Teflon. (that Triple Guard is good stuff too!)

More importantly, remove the props at least once a year and re-lube with your favorite waterproof grease. Leaving props on for a long time will have you using a "puller" to get them off! If you use it or leave it in salt water all the time you might want to remove them more often...(Mercury says every 50hrs or 60 days on a Bravo)

I use the Quicksilver Special Lubricant 101 ( where I live, it's easier to get hold of than the VP stuff ). The props come off very easily each year after 6 months in salt water.

Well....................................I finally got the prop off. It came off and left the hub on the shaft. I cut the hub carefully off the shaft. There was no way that it was going to come off any other way. Now I have to get a new hub, get the prop repaired and put back together.
