Is this true? http://www.knfilters.com/marine/default.htm I can hear my engine sucking and gasping for more air. This would be great if they are compliant. Anyone have any experience, thoughts, and or prices? |

I have used K&N on my cars. They do improve air flow, but for the most part, the horsepower gain, and fuel economy increases are barely noticed for the premium price you pay. Their best application is in high performance engines where even a slight improvement in air flow, will make a noticable difference. On a stock boat motor, there will not be marked improvement. But you will be able to tell everyone, "I have a high performance air filter/arrestor on my boat" and maybe 3 people might be impressed. |

I agree on the performance enhnacement. I've used K&N on my motorcycles for years (easy to clean rather than replace in high dust) and really never noticed a performance gain. My curiosity is big on my 260 due to the actual performance I am getting with the stock filter on my 7.4 GSI. I actually hear a sucking sound and can feel a pronounced sucking from the filter when the boat is running. It sounds like it doesn't get enough air. Obviously it does or I would not get the performance I get now, but my gut tells me I am going to get better airflow into the motor which can't hurt. Not much data on the misc. message boards on this topic. I'm curious. Not sure if I'. $125 curious, but maybe. |

Dave, I was always curious on this subject as well. I've run a K&N in my pickup for years. The biggest difference I noticed was improved throttle response. Seems like I get much less delay between my right foot and that burst of acceleration. Could all just be wishfull thinking. Maybe the same would be true in my boat. I wonder too, if anyone has any experience with this product in their boat. You've peaked my curiosity at the least. I'll step back now and see what other have to say. |

I'm with you all on above. My Bronco had a big difference across the board.... better throttle response, a little power increase (about as much as not running the A/C).... most notably, economy (about 10%). Therefore all my cars have had K&N in them. They do NOT list the filter for my Merc 6.2 MPI. Anyone have thoughts on that? |

Dave Are you sure this fits your boat? Your Gsi has the tuned port intake which has a cylindrical filter on the front side of the engine. The unit as shown would be more applicable to a carb'd motor. ![]() See my air cleaner is off to the left with the silver mesh covering and doesn't look anything like the one pictured in the Craig's List Ad. Or am I babbling and you found another source? |

Bummer, I guess I'm sh** out of luck for an off the shelf unit. Are these the normal K&N filters as used in the Automobiles? I can make a frame and cover if the filter is the same construction. |

Quote: For the first time, boat owners can experience the increased horsepower and engine protection provided by K&N's unique oiled cotton gauze and epoxied screen filter element. I think they are designed only for the marine environment, and possibly not "washable" as the automotive filters are. My guess is they are not. |
