Post subject: | outdrive zerk fitting |
Cannot find the reason for the zerk grease fitting in my FW manual or an online Volvo manual. It is located on the starboard side. Is this for the u-joint or gimbel bearing? How much grease and how freq should it be done. Can it be over filled? Is lubrimatic wheel bearing grease ok? Thanks for your help. |

That is a grease fitting for your gimbel bearing. to grease the universal joints you have to remove the drive. also the proper way to grease the gimbel bearing is through that fitting on the side of your drive with the drive removed. with the drive on you will get very little grease into the fitting. good luck, Joe. |

You can grease the gimbal with the drive on just fine. There is a tube from the zerk to the gimbal. Make sure the engine is running when you grease it. The drive shaft and gimbal spin anytime the engine is runnng. I give mine about 4-5 shots three times a year. The universals can only be greased by removing the drive. Not hard to do. Biggest thing in handling them as they are heavy and awkward. |
