87 for me but I may step up to 89 on my next tank as I had some 'run on' 'disealing' this past Saturday. I try to fill up at Chevron or Texaco as these are the only stations in my area that don't have ethonol in the fuel.

Any of you guys have the same problem with carb engines? If I let the motor idle for 60 seconds or so before shutting off, the motor doesn't run on.

Ethanol isn't going to cause dieseling if the engine is properly tuned up. If you've got run-on then that needs the solved, not worry about switching fuel sources. I haven't had a carb equipped engine for more than 15 years so I'm not the one for help there.

Dieseling can be caused by low octane fuel on an engine tuned by NASA. If you run 87 in an engine meant to have 93 in it and you still have wet fuel in the chamber it will diesel.

Ok just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting that ethanol in the fuel causes dieseling. I was only stating I try to use fuel without ethanol. As far as correcting the dieseling problem, the manual says move up in octane if you experience run on. It also warns of ethanol in fuel for reasons you guys already are fully aware.

Hopefully the increased octane, will fix my problem. (87 to 89)

Higher the octane the cooler the engine will run. Cooler engines increase performance. Downfall is an engine is made with a compression rating to match an octane rating. If the book say run 93 then it should knock will 87.
