I just purchased a 2000 H190 with the Fuel Injected V8 (5.0) with the Volvo drive. I'm having the local dealer do a 'drive service' and engine oil change for peace of mind before kicking off the summer. I was also going to have them change the impeller, however, they quoted me $350 to change it. Does this sound right? Its been a few years since I owned a boat so I'm wondering if things have changed that much. I thought it was a 30 minute job to loosen a few bolts and swap out the impeller. I have decided I need to change the impeller myself to save money and make sure I know how to do this should I need to while on the water. Any step by step instructions for changing the impeller on a 2000 with the Volvo drive? Thanks for all your help |

Not sure how much yours is like mine as my boat is a 2007, but is a FI 5.0L. I just changed mine. To about 1/2 hour or so. There are 4 bolts to remove the housing after taking off the two hoses that go to it. Not much to it with basic mechanical skills. Just make sure you get the fins back in the right way and lube the impeller prior to assembly. |

Howdy, Get yourself a service manual. http://www.volvo.com/volvopenta/global/ ... search.htm Volvo raw water pump replacement is not unlike Merc Bravo replacement. Pretty easy. $350 is a bit high unless they're doing a whole lotta other stuff!! Cheers, Rick |

I just did the impeller change on our 2000 Horizon 20'- removing the back seat to access the engine is key, since the raw water pump sits on the front of the crankshaft. There is about 3" of clearance between the pump and the back of the seat on mine. Once the seat is out of the way, it is a 30 minute job- tops. Two bolts for the bracket, four for the pump and two hose clamps... Removing the seat might take ten minutes. If you're going to do your own wrenching, I'd highly recommend the Seloc manual. Not sure why they're quoting so much- a buddy of mine who sells boats told me one of the other brands required pulling the entire outdrive to replace the impeller. Wonder if that's what they were expecting to have to do? Happy boating! Donovan |

Seloc and Clymer don't really have a great reputation for being good manuals...... They're probably fine for something as simple as a raw water pump replacement though I would spend the extra money and get the Volvo manual... |

I bought a Seloc first since it was pushed by some 'gurus' on another board but did not give me the detail and completeness of a Volvo shop manual. Buy the manual and it will pay for itself the first day. |

I agree entirely about those manuals; VP is the only way to go. The Clymer one I have is supposed to cover 1994 up to 2000, but doesn't cover the modifications made by VP in 1999 even ! Graham |

I suggest DIY. It was pretty easy for me and my mechanical skills are very low. Took 30 minutes of my time for a $50 part. That would be worth $300 to me. Also, if you need to do an emergency change on the water you'll have the know how. |

Some of the discussion and pictures in this thread may help you. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=2881&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=75 I tackled it myself. It wasn't one, two, three, but it wasn't that hard either. The VP manual will help as others have mentioned. |
