For as often as it needs to be changed I stick with the OEM VP fluid.

First link is a different part #. 80-90W

2nd link of part # 1141679 is correct.
Quote:
1141679 75W 90 Synthetic GL-5 Gear Oil Lubricant is designed specifically for Volvo Penta sterndrives. This 100% synthetic oil reduces friction for longer gear life, higher torque and sustained horsepower. For late-model Volvo Penta sterndrives, including SX, DP-S, XDP, DPX and IPS units

Try these. Still cheaper.

To be honest I have never checked the price. I have my buddy take care of the outdrive when its time to service it. My Dp is a pain to fill without the right fitting. The most I do is check the dipstick and crack open the drain to check for water.

VP do not make oil; they buy it from someone and relabel it.The Mobil oil of the same grade smells exactly the same ( horrible!), I guess it's the same stuff!

I use the Merc Hi Performance gear lube in my Cobra (mechanic's recommendatiion) it's usually about 9 bucks a quart at most marine stores. I don't think it's synthetic though. The Pennzoil Marine gear lube comes in a syn 75W-90 weight...probably can be found at most marine shops....

In the official VP manual for the DPS and SX outdrives, it recomends either VP's own brand synthetic oil or Mobilube 1 SHC Fully synthetic SAE 75-90 gear lubricant; guess that's why they smell the same!
