Is anyone running a 4-blade prop on a 180 Horizon? I currently have a 3-blade 14x19 SS turning the 4600 RPM at WOT on a 5.0GL. I'm looking for more hole shot and looking at a 14.25 x 19 4-blade aluminum.

Howdy,

You're just going to have to try it.

Since you're only turning 4600, your engine probably has a max WOT RPM of 4800.
(you need to verify this)

You could probably get a better hole shot by going to a 3 blade (cupped) 17p stainless prop and up your WOT RPM to around 4800

4 blade props are usually even number pitch also, so you could also get an 18p 4 blade....
I'm guessing that you have a late model boat? You could probably even put a Duo-prop lower on it and probably get really good all around performance.

Make sure your tach is accurate though.

Generally speaking, you should "prop" your engine/drive to give you maximum rpm at WOT when the boat is loaded at where you always operate(weight + fuel, etc) and at the elevation (MSL) you typically use the boat.

Regards,

Rick

I use a 14x20 4-blade on my 4.3 V-6. The stock prop is a 14.25x23, and the 4-blade seems to be better for slower planing, quicker holeshot, and eliminating wandering at idle speeds.
