Hello all, I am attempting to change the plugs in my 170 MMR Mercury Marine 224 CID 4 cylinder in my 85 195 Horizons. I can get #1,2,3 out no problem (although I think they gave me the wrong plugs RC12YC not RC9YC, what is the difference?). Either way, I cannot get the #4 plug out because of the shape of the exhaust manifold. Anyone have a trick for this? I tried a swivel plug socket and that worked on the others, but not #4. Lastly, I seem to have an odd power pack combo, 224CID 4 cyl and Alpha drive. I can't find my serial # anywhere on mercruisers cross reference. Very poor design... |

assuming you are using an extention shart and plug socket, try putting the socket on the plug and then putting the shaft in the socket. |

Use a spark plug socket that has a 6 point end. Thus allowing the use of an end wrench to turn it. |

Got it by using a plug socket and with a open end wrench. Kinda stupid design of the exhaust manifold. |
