For those of you that have a spare prop what do you do with it? Do you keep it on the boat? Do you just bring it with you for out of town trips? What do you store it in if anything? I searched the web for a prop storage box and couldn't find anything. I was quite suprised. I would think somone would make some moulded plastic kit boxes, like the ones all the power tools come in these days. I plan to carry my spare in the truck on out of town trips, but leave it at home when I'm boating locally. It's just way to big to store on the boat, but wondering what others do.

Edit: I should mention I do have a flimsy cardboard box that it came in. Just thinking there must be a better way. Maybe I'll just fab something.

Hey imp... I keep mine under the bench seat (port side for me) opposite my sub and spare batt wrapped up in a towel. There is enough room in there for my small tackle box and first aid kit as well. I keep the replacement hub inside the prop.

I have seen the molded cases you refer to, just don't remember where.

i just got a plastic tupperware- like storage box with a snap down lid from meijers. at first i was thinking of a smaller size to fit only the prop but when my wife showed up with a larger size, i found i could put my tools and my new 12 volt emergency jumper battery box in there too !

On our old sundowner, I kept the spare prop behind the 2nd battery. Lots of room and being at the transom, it never moved much. It was an aluminum spare.

Current boat is a DPS, I am not spending $1200 on a set, just for a spare. I'll swim 1st. We do 90% of the time have the jet skis with us, so we have spare transportation.

I like that. It's got good possibilities. Anyone with any other ideas?

On my old H200 I kept the spare prop deep in the back behind the battery. It was wedged in pretty tight so it wouldn't move. I didn't really care about accesibility since it was only a spare and would get changed only if something happened. Just tuck yours in somewhere far and deep and forget about it. It's always good to have a spare prop on hand not in the truck or at home.

I keep my spare at home in the garage. In our lakes here it is mostly sand and muck bottom so unless you go to one of the forbidden areas you are ok.

I used to keep a spare prop behind my jumpseat in my old boat with a single prop -- However -- with a Duoprop I am of the same opinion as the poster above -- I don't currently have a spare -- I might purchase a set if I found them on ebay for $300 or $400 --- I would keep it in the house --and only take it in the car for longer trips --

That's the one and only thing I don't like about DP's. In a bowrider it just isn't practical to keep a spare set aboard. I have one and take it on long trips, but it won't do me much good until I get back to the truck. :|

I keep a spare set in the engine compartment in a plastic milk case along with a spare set of prop nuts zip tied to the case (just in case you would drop one) and a prop wrench. Bought the spares on Fleabay. Volvo sells a set of aluminum emergency props that are good for 25 MPH. Sold mine when I bought the SS set.

I removed the pooper and store my extra prop under the deck where it use to be. I also threw a 2x4 block under the deck so I can remove the props.

 I have one of those brackets. Wife got it for me for xmas along with a trailer mounted spare wheel/jack storage bracket. The prop bracket would be pretty easy to make with a length of threaded rod or carriage bolt, a large wing nut and a piece of marine plywood. Someone crafty might even make one using a old prop shaft so the whole setup with spare washer and nut could be stored.

re using a spare prop shaft to make a spare prop holder for the boat; Now that is an idea. I've got a DPS lower unit in my garage, minus the skeg and the shaft runout is slightly out of spec, left over from an encounter with a lobster pot/ steel hawser back in 2002 (insurance paid out on that). I couldn't bear to throw it out, I knew it would come in useful someday, Now I have a use for it; thanks !

I have one of those brackets as well. It is mounted just in front of the trim pump.
