Hi guys first time on here from the Uk. Already been reading for sometime and got some good ideas.
In fact tomorrow I shall be moving my boat from one trailer to another on dry land using the gradual jack technique. lets hope it works!!!!!

I am also changing the gear shift cable on a 1999 225 Sundowner. The cable is marked as
CC21416.

My question is do I have to use this exact cable or is there a newer cable?

If so anyone know the new part number?

Thanks Guys

Tom

Tom,

Welcome, not many UK FW owners on here; not many in the area I boat either, Anglesey, I think I've only ever seen one other on the water here !

The cable you have is standard;

CC; control cable
214: cable type (in this case OMC type shifter to Volvo outdrive/ engine)
16: length in feet

The Teleflex Morse website shows no alternative to the original one I'm afraid
.

Thanks for that Graham, I have now managed to free off the cable it was sticking at the drive end, oiled it and its working a dream.
I will replace it in the winter.

Tom, I am also a fellow UK Boater!!

What waters do you boat in? We are currently down in Poole, Dorset on the South Coast hopefully going to do some boating next week. But we are based not far from Northwich in the North West and normally boat along the North Wales coast and Anglesey.

The UK Four Winns boaters must meet up on the water sometime!

Tom,

I believe the usual way is to pull it through into the boat from the outside, by attaching it to the old cable ! As you can't do this, could you pass through a stiff wire or plastic rod of some sort into the boat onto which you could tape on the shift cable ? (as smooth a joint as possible, to reduce the change of snagging). When you are trying to pass the cable through from inside the boat, it may be catching on the stub on the inner transom onto which the guide hose is attached. You may need to remove that hose and slide the shift cable through it, reattaching it to the transom later. Even if you get it past that, it then has to curve so it goes through the tilt housing, before passing through the outdrive; not easy without a guide of some sort.

Thanks for that Graham.

I have tried a variation on those themes still will not go past the transom (not sure if that is inner or outer where it is sticking)

I have resorted to experienced engineer to fix tomorrow to save the swearing and cursing!!!!!!!! :x

Just spent the afternoon levelling the bunks on my new trailer, that took some time.

All part of the joy of boating eh?

Good luck with the cable.

Once you're happy with the bunk position, if you mark thebracket position on the trailer chassis and on the uprights with a marker pen, if you have to drop the bunks for antifouling it's easy to put them back up to the original position.

Cable done in 10 minutes by guy at local yard. Used fairly stiff wire from drive end taped to cable came straight through!!

Will mark bunks good idea.

Ran boat for first time yesterday, all went very well, very pleased. :D
