Took the boat out of the water late last night and as I was tightening the ratchet straps I noticed the starboard ratchet handle and center roller had lube on it. Looks like the drive pump is leaking hydrolic fluid. Dropped it off at the dealer today. I'll update on the findings as soon as they get to it. Service isn't open until tues. Hoping they can get to it tues or wed. as we have a trip planned for next weekend.

sounds like one of the ram fittings may be lose, take a wrench and see if it is. Taking to the shop, they could be a while working one 1st come, 1st serve. If there is many ahead of you...... |

There is a small cover with 2 allen head bolts over the 4 ram fittings and as I was removing the second bolt to get a look hydrolic fluid started to drip and the drive started to drop. I put the bolt back in immediately as I did not want to drag the skeg all the way to the dealer. I called today and eventhough they are extremely busy he is going to try and get me fixed by the end of the week. I'm really hoping they can. |

Howdy, If you tighten them yourself, be EXTREMELY careful and use a flare nut wrench or you risk slipping off the nut and damaging it (and your knuckles!).  http://www.mytoolstore.com/sk/sk03150.html Also. remember that you're usually tightening stainless steel into aluminum. If you tighten too tight....you could strip it out and end up replacing the entire casting to the tune of several hundred dollars for parts and labor. There's sometimes an O-ring involved in the fitting or it's a compression type fitting and the OEM service manual probably indicates a torque setting for them. Cheers, Rick |

I'm wondering why they put the trim pump in the transom mount....I don't think that anyone else has done this....how do they hold up to being immersed in water all the time.... |

That's how all the '07 & up Volvos are. While I'm a big fan of Volvo, IMO that was, um, a sub-optimal design decision. |

Yeah, you should take that into consideration.....but it's better than nuthin.....which HAS over-tightened & stripped a LOT of steel-aluminum fittings You also can use a little algebra  to calculate when the wrench adds an additional 1/2"
