Hi all, My Vista 248 is overheating. It is a Mercury 350 MPI. This started after a whisea$$ decided it was a good idea to warm up the engine when the boat was still out of the water on the lift... Luckily the engine only ran for a couple of minutes dry, but still... The symptoms are that when running the engine, it overheats in a matter of minutes. However, when flushing the engine, the temperature is OK. This made me deduct that either the raw water pump itself or the raw water pump impellor are busted. Does anyone agree with this conclusion? How hard is it to replace the impellor? Is there some step by step guide? It seems hard to access. My local marine tells me that they need to get the boat out of the water to do this which would mean I would have the boat sea towed, taken out etc... Thanks, Richard |

It's probably the impellor; when flushing it, the water pressure in the hose help the flow, the impellor doesn't have to do a lot. When it's running in the water, there's precious little hydrostatic head and it's not sucking in enough water. Graham |

Just replaced the impeller on my 2005, 268 Vista, I can't imagine you will have any more room in your engine compartment than I had. My pump was on the lower left corner looking at the engine from the front. Get ready to stand on your head, replacing the impeller without removing the pump in my case was not an option. The link Capn Morgan sent you was good info. However, I bought a TIGE first year of production ( 1992 ) had it 14 years, changing that impeller was a walk in the park compared to what I just went through. 9BALL |

I need to change the one in my boat. Merc 7.4L and it looks like I will enjoy standing on my head for half a day to replace it. Can hardly wait! |

Thanks guys - I did look at it the other weekend - stood on my head a bit and finally decided that maybe I could just get the 100 hrs service done which includes changing the impellor anyway... So I got the boat Sea Towed to the marine. By the way - Sea Tow rocks (if you are a member before you need them)!!!
