Does anyone know what the drain plug hole size is on a VP SX drive? I'm gathering up tools to take care of the new (to me) boat and I need a lower unit oil pump. I thought I read Walmart has one but want to make sure it fits before I pull the drain plug. Also where does everyone buy their drain screw o-ring gaskets, dipstick o-ring gaskets, etc...? Can these be gotten at Home depot or Autozone (regular o-rings?) Where do you all buy your parts? Thanks

Sorry - don't know the size of the plug or o-rings.

I do know that the fitting on the pump that you can buy at west marine seems to fit....

Also, do you have a impact driver with a big-ass flat-head bit on it? The drain plug and oil-level plu on mine were on so tight that I couldn't budge them with a screwdriver.
If you dont have an impact driver, do the following:
Option 1 - go get one.

Option 2 - Insert big flat-head screwdriver into slot of plug and start to apply torque. Hit end of screwdriver repeatedly with hammer while still applying torque.

Worked for me - good luck!

Erik

I do have an impact driver but i'll have to get a flathead bit for it. I guess buying parts is easiest from a marine dealer locally? Even on Iboats VP store I don't really see the parts I need. Is there an online place that sells Volvo Penta stuff? By the way EvilZ, that's a beautiful pic you've got in your posts. Is that your boat out there on the left?

Thanks! Yes, that's my funship on the left and my bud's horizon on the right. Up at Lake Mohave.

If you haven't already looked here, it will at least give you part numbers and whether you can buy them from VP or straight through dealer:

You'll need to know what SX outdrive you have.....

Wylie,

Try to post a pic, or at least a signature line with your boat info.

Thanks jwerner, I found that pump at a marine supply right near me and I'm going to pick it up tomorrow. I'd seen others with the plastic threaded adapters and wanted a metal one to screw into the lower unit. Should last a while.
