Does anyone know the proper part number for this and which type of plug would be the best? It currently has AC plugs in it and they seemed to work just fine until the boat sunk.

If they worked fine before the boat "sunk" then they will work fine after...Buy a new set of the same or take one of them to your local parts store and have them cross reference it to whatever brand you want to use.

What's the story on her sinking?

The previous owner hit something with the stern drive and didn't realize the extent of the damage. By the time he got back to the marina the next morning the rear end of the boat was completely under water. It turns out that the outdrive was almost completely broke off. OVernight, it literally fell off underwater and pulled the drive shaft through the hull when it seperated which left a 1 inch hole or so and the bilge pumps couldn't keep up. It slowly sunk overnight.
