Post subject: | V258 Battery Charger |
We have just returned to our Four Winns V258 to find that the batteries have drained! We left the boat two months ago hooked up to shore power with the battery charger switched on but the charger doesn't seem to be working? Is there something I am missing? |

Welcome to the club. I don't think my built-in charger has ever worked. I didn't notice it for years because I used the boat evey weekend. Now that I don't use it as much, I have been using a tricle-charger. However, nothing charges the batteries better than running the boat. Sounds like another bad charger IMO. |

is it true that a trickle charger isn't good to use on deep cycle batteries? |

Is the battery charger fuse tripped on the main power panel? |

I have an '06 258 and mid-season last year, the Guest battery charger went on the fritz and fried both batteries. I was a bit perturbed because the Guest charger was supposed to have either circuit breakers or in line fuses between the charger and the battery, but it didn't. As a result, I ended up with battery acid all over the engine compartment. I found an exact replacement on ebay for about $250, replaced it and added some inline fuses. Works like a charm. |
