Hey guys, I got a 1990 Horizon 220 350 V8 OMC engine. Just bought a week ago. Got a beautiful day today in Tulsa and started her up. This part was the only thing leaking. Can anyone help tell me what this is exactly? Looks like it has two water hoses and two oil hoses. Not sure where they go or in what direction. Its off the back of the motor. Maybe be gas lines not water? Really just dont know.

From the 4.3L OMC I had in my first boat that sure looks to me to be the power steering cooler. Mine was replace due to leaking right before I bought it and previous owner got it at his local FW dealer. If memory serves it was a few hunder bucks, but I am sure you can get other places as well. Not to sure about good place for OMC parts of hand.

Yep, PS cooler. Lou or one of the OMC experts will be along to give you a better answer, but I'd wonder if a current Volvo replacement would work just fine.

In general, great sources for parts are:

So does the water cool the power steering fluid? Its not oil?

Also I think that these general leak due to not being drained properly and freezing. Mine was on the back side of the engine and a real mother to get at so it was tough to drain the water from it.

And yes the water does cool the P/S fluid. My Mercury has something similar, but on mine it cools the incoming fuel before it get to the fuel injection system.

It looks like it has two cap looking deals on each end.. What if I just re-soldered where its leaking? Obviously not the ideal thing to do.. But looking around the cheapest new I can find is 175$. Used on ebay for 30.

Oh, and Saturday night usually doesnt start until about 10 does it?

One my favorite movies. But then, I'm a lifelong Route 66 nut. I've driven the route from KC to Arizona and back several times. I bet Rhino knows a thing or two about it too.

I know this isn't the answer you want, but I think such a repair would be asking for trouble later. The cost of important parts is one of the things that sucks about boating. :)

I totally agree with Mike. Do some homework and find a good deal on a new one and replace it. Half the fun of boating is the endless search for hard to find parts sometimes.

This looks like what you need.

Yea I am, fan of the movie and Route 66. Its really such a more enjoyable drive than the interstate, which in most parts of the route the interstate is just a half mile from 66, alot of times crossing under I44 from Tulsa to OKC. Its kind of sad when you think about it.
