I am going to start changing my own oil and I am looking for advise and recommendations from others who change their own oil. What type of pump do you use? I have also considered buying a 12V Shurflo pump and the appropriate hose to insert down the dipstick tube and mounting on a low, circular container (9 qt capacity) from my local auto parts store. Does anyone have any thoughts on that approach? Thanks for your input. Go Beavers. |

I also use the Pella pump, same model as well but $54 seems a bit high. I didn't pay the equivalent of that over here, and you guys usually pay roughly half what we pay. |

http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/ ... 306_390306 Is the one I use. I picked it up at Harbor Freight a few years ago for a few $$$ less, but Northern Tool is the only place that carries it now. I switched the soft suction hose out to some similar sized hard tubing from Lowe's for a few $$$. In under 5 minutes and a few pumps it'll take all the oil out of my 5.7Gi. Its also great to quick change differential fluid if your not taking the covers off. For the price it can't be beat. |

I had the electric oil removal pump from Overtons. It was junk with an air leak in the suction pump and was incapable of removing more than a quart after 20 minutes of pumping. I now have a manual model "Oil Vac" from West Marine that works fine. |

I take my covers off at least the first time I change it, but I see no reason to every fall when I change out both. I'm about to do it here to my new truck, and I'll take the covers off to make sure all is well. |

After reading several posts last year when I was in the same situation...I decided on the Moeller Fluid Extractor. It works very well. The Pella was the other choice I was looking at. +1 on the Pela 6000. I first bought the 12v pump from bass pro (same as shown above from Overtons) and it sucked, but not like I wanted it to. I got sick of fighting it so I bought the Pela and had the oil change done in no time! It is cleaner, quieter , and easier to work with! I did have to pick up a small piece of rubber hose to adapt it to the end of my dipstick tube. |

I have the same one from west marine. One trick..... warm up the engine first. It makes it alot eazier to get the oil out. This season I'm going to get a oil filter relocation kit. |

This Jabsco Porta Quick Oil Change is the best one I have ever used. http://www.jabsco.com/products/marine-c1/diesel-oil-transfer-pumps/porta_quick_oil_changer_17800_series/iid_210-item210/index.htm It is worth the cost at full price, but I bought mine on ebay at a fairly good discount off list price. |

I also purchased the Jabsco Porta Quick Oil Changer last season. It made the oil change a piece of cake! I used to use a manual vacuum pump but will never go back after using the 12 volt Jabsco unit. |
