I would like to fire up my engine in the driveway. I purchased the Merc. ear muffs for the leg. Does it matter which side of the leg the garden hose connection goes on - port or starboard? And how much water flow should be going to the leg - hose full open or just a trickle? Thx in advance Langley B.C. Canada |

For merc, the side doesn't matter. If you have the Bravo with the hi-speed pick-up, make sure that is covered! Otherwise, I do about half open. For me, I turn on the water until it is just spraying around the muffs. Start the engine, then adjust so there is still just a little spray past the muffs... this way I know I'm not sucking air! Once it's running, make sure you have good flow out, and it warms up, but doesn't overheat! |

I have a Volvo and always run the tap full on... IMHO better to have too much water than not enough. |

full on and make sure no one decides to take a shower in the house or run the wash or the engine may overheat... |

Full on; the engine wil only get what the raw water pump puts out; the rest on the inlet side will leak out past the muffs. Graham |

If all you are doing is starting the engine and letting her idle in neutral than you can attach a garden hose to the flush port... no muffs needed... If you are going to play with forward/reverse and or increase rpm's than you need muffs... |
