I would like to fire up my engine in the driveway. I purchased the Merc. ear muffs for the leg. Does it matter which side of the leg the garden hose connection goes on - port or starboard? And how much water flow should be going to the leg - hose full open or just a trickle?

Thx in advance

For merc, the side doesn't matter. If you have the Bravo with the hi-speed pick-up, make sure that is covered! Otherwise, I do about half open. For me, I turn on the water until it is just spraying around the muffs. Start the engine, then adjust so there is still just a little spray past the muffs... this way I know I'm not sucking air! Once it's running, make sure you have good flow out, and it warms up, but doesn't overheat!

I have a Volvo and always run the tap full on... IMHO better to have too much water than not enough.

full on and make sure no one decides to take a shower in the house or run the wash or the engine may overheat...

Full on; the engine wil only get what the raw water pump puts out; the rest on the inlet side will leak out past the muffs.

If all you are doing is starting the engine and letting her idle in neutral than you can attach a garden hose to the flush port... no muffs needed...

If you are going to play with forward/reverse and or increase rpm's than you need muffs...
