I replaced mine last year with an Extreme, and Graham is right - the difference is amazing!

This winter, I changed the original on my 2004 Sundowner; I put the boat in the water today, the differennce in the shift quality is amazing. I used the Tfxtreme cable, which became OE fitment sometime in 2006 I think. A recommended mod! Maybe now my wife will drive the boat, she wouldn't before as it was so difficult to change gear. I've heard those Xtreme cables are the cat's meow. I've thought about doing that, my shifter is stiff. I'll play around with the friction adjustment first, though. |

There seems to be a big difference in the quality of OE cables...believe it or not the OE (OMC) shift cable in my old 88 Cobra is very smooth which with the early bad rep (recalled because of cables sticking) the Cobras had leads to to think they worked hard on making the replacement cables better...this cable has been on the boat a LONG time (I've had it 8 years and it was on it then) so I'll use another of the OE (OMC) ones when the time comes to replace it... |

I cut the original apart; the core is stainless solid rod, there were quite a few areas where it was dull due to abrasion. The ends are pretty useful; cut the inner down so there's about 1/2 " of the inner cable left attached then hammer the tip flat.Very useful for removing O rings etc. Graham |
