Post subject: | Prop Help |
hi i have a 97 horizon200 with a 5.0 volvo sx cobra drive. i do a lot of skiing and wakeboarding. i recently bent my prop and am going to get a new one. my question is what size do i need to get more hole shot? my prop is 14 1/4 x 21. i trim all the way down and when i full throttle the front of the boat comes out of the water and it takes probably 15 to 30 seconds to get on plane if not longer. do i have to much pitch now or not enough? the boat runs about 40 with 8 people on if i have everyone move to the front of the boat it takes off a lot faster. i want to say at w/o throttle im at around 4000 rpm but im not sure. any help would be great thanx |

8 people is quite a load on a 20 foot boat with a 10 person capacity, so you should expect longer times to get up to speed. Looking at past specs, 5.0 motors on those boats at that time ran 14 1/4 or 14 1/2 x 19 props. Going to a 19 pitch will give you more bite which means better hole shot, but you will lose some top end speed. You should still be able to run 45 to 50 mph and your RPMs should be in the 4200-4800 range at full throttle with a typical load. My boat is 21' 2" and I have the 5.0 with a 14 1/2 x 19 SS prop |
