I am planning to replace my impeller. It is 2 or 3 years old and the shop that did it is out of business and I also had a bad winterizing experience from them, but thats not my question. I bought a new impeller our first year (4 years ago) with the boat, as a spare. At the time I didn't really know what it was, but was told I should have one. This part is new, but also close to 5 years old. Would the part still be good? I once found some old stock rubber bungies at a hardware store, where the rubber had deteriated (probably 20 years old). ![]() |

I have to tell you, thats probably a dangerous part to put in. Over time, rubber deterioriates and rather than flexing like it needs to, it may break. If this were my boat, I would personally prefer doing the job once and knowing I had a brand new part. |

I would get a new one also. I always keep a spare in my tool bag but replace them every 2 years so that's as old as they get. Your 5 year old one is probably just fine, but it's one of those "how much do you want to worry about it" kind of things. |

I suspect that even when you buy a new one, you can't be sure it hasn't sat in the box for 5 years at a warehouse... I usually buy a spare, save it for a couple of years, use it the next time I change, and then buy a new spare... |

I think I'll split the difference. Buy a new one, and save the used one and the 5 year old one. I don't need anything new to feed my worries. Thanks, |
