Were there any unusual problems with these in 2000? I remember reading something, I believe on this forum, about the valve design being changed on the Vortec big blocks in 99 or thereabouts. Under certain conditions, they would injest water through the manifold.
I believe I read that Volvo put out some kind of tech note on it and replaced a bunch of engines. Is the 454 MPI vulnerable to this? If so, is the Mercrusier Bravo III application vulnerable to it, or have they not seen the problem?
I'm looking at a 2000 Sea Ray 240 SD with this power package with only 114 hours on it. I want to make sure this is a stout setup before I pursue it further.
I plan on lots of midrange cruising with a few shots of full power every now and then to put some serious wind in the hair and so that I can't hear the wife and kids for brief moments.
