I need to order a raw water impeller for my 1998 V/P 5.0Gi engine, it is a belt driven pump (see photo). The manual says there were two types of pump used in this year a "Sherwood" and a "Johnson". The description for the Sherwood say's it utilizes separate housings for the impeller and bearings, meaning that as you look at the pump, the housing will be split somewhere near the middle of the assembly. The Johnson utilizes a single housing for the bearing and the impeller, with the two hose fittings being part of a separate thin housing cover. Going off this description mine looks as if it is a "Johnson" type would you agree? ![]() |

I just replaced my impeller in May. My pump looks like yours. I found the part number on the V-P online parts catalog. There wasn't any question about type of pump. There was a parts bulletin about the part number changes. I'll look it up and let you know which part number I used. |

The part listed for my 5.7L Gi (PLKDCE) is 3862281. I'm not sure which model yours is, but I looked up the various 5.0 Gi listed on the site and those with a bracket mounted (not crank mounted) pumps used the same service part as mine. |

Thanks for the part number. Did you do the job with the boat in or out of the water? Mine will be in the water but the manual says it can be done if you bung the intake hose as its below the water line ![]() |

Out of the water before I put it in for the season, I didn't have to worry about plugging the hoses. |

If access to the inlet hose is easy, you can use a pair of mole grips and 2 pieces of wood to clamp the hose shut. Graham |
