This is the first time I have ever had trouble that I couldn't seem to remedy quickly. So this is the problem. Boat will start and run for about 10 seconds and then die off. If I try to give any throttle at all it quits right away. I did have a problem with the boat being full of water the other day after we had a storm come through that dumped 4 inchs of rain over night and I forgot to pull my drain plug. With that said so far I did change oil, cuz there was water mixed with it, swapped out the plugs which were a tade damp, changed cap & rotor on dist., and dumped a bunch of water eliminator in fuel tank, but after all that still does the same damn thing. My only other guess is to try a new fuel seperator as it does hang low on the engine and may have gotten water in it. I did pull it, drain it and reinstall, but no luck yet. Any other ideas guys. Oh its a Merc. 7.4L MPI.

You hit just about everything I could think of with my limited engine knowledge. I would try the fuel separator. Maybe look at the fuel pump and ensure that it's working properly. I'm sure some of the experts will chime in shortly :) Good luck!

Yes I did also inspect the fuel pump which seems to be working (i can hear it running). Oh and I did go through the electrical connectors that may have gotten wet also.

Kinda what I am thinking is that there is water in the fuel, but I would think it would still run just run crappy? Not getting any fuel into the fuel filter at all? I have 13.5V going into pump and can here pump turn on, but still no start. Why would filter not fill with fuel?

Try hooking your fuel line up to a gas can and see if that gets you to go. If your not getting fuel to your fuel filter maybe there it some thing wrong with the antisiphon valve if you have one. The gas can idea will weed that problem out

If you have one it is located right at the fuel tank

Pump out ALL the fuel. Sounds like the water separates in the separator if it sits for a while. Unfortunately a large amount of water in the fuel prevents it's effectiveness while running. I'm thinking too much water is making it past the separator.

Pulled my pump, cooler and all the lines and emptied them. Replace water seperator and drained fuel rail going to injectors. Inspected inside my tank last night and I can clearly see there is water in there. So now I have to pump out 40 or so gallons of fuel and get rid of it some how. PLace at work will pick it up for $150.00. Someone mentioned to me that my injectors culd be trashed from the water?

Well, obviously, that sucks. Call a local auto shop and ask them how/where they dispose of their waste chemicals....

I work in a shop. Forklift shop, but same concept on disposal of chemicals.

Boat Manufacturers are required by law to install an anti-syphon valve in the boats fuel system. The valve is usually a hose barb fitting with a checkball and spring inside. It is usually mounted to the fuel tanks pickup tube where the rubber fuel line attaches. Some anti-syphon valves are mounted to the fuel filter assembly on the outlet side.

The purpose of the anti-syphon valve is to prevent fuel from syphoning into the boats bilge in the event of a break in the fuel line.

The problem is that the checkball inside the valve gets worn and tends to jam thus restricting the flow of fuel
The symptoms of a bad anti-syphon valve are, hard starting, surging RPM's while under way, hesitation or backfiring upon acceleration and lack of wide open throttle (WOT) RPM's
