Post subject: | 3rd battery install |
i have 2 batteries on my 248 vista..the previous owner installed a new battery tray on the starboard side of the engine compartment...he ran 2 new cables from the tray across to where my exixting batteries are..but didnt hook anything up..im wondering if i buy a 3rd battery would i be able to hook up one end of the cables up to one existing battery then attach the end to the new battery i would use them as my house batteries and save the other one for starting the boat.im wondering if this would hurt my alternater or electrical..has this been tried before with good results or bad ..thanks |

I have three batteries in my bowrider. All you need to do is run the batteries in parallel. Connect the furthest positive to the other positive and then to your switch #2 stud. Run each of the batteries negative to ground. This will double your storage capacity and will not harm anything else. The other option is to run two 6V batteries in series, people use golf cart batteries for their large storage capacity. I am not sure of all the benefits this entails though. Don't worry about your alternator, it will just see the dual batteries as one large entity. |

pull the second 12 volt and replace with 2 6volt batteries for your house. Costco has great 6volt batteries for about $70/each hook them in series and have more house power than you can use. |
