Hi, I've started to experience strange behavior when starting up my engine from cold. It cranks over first time, starts up and the rev's continue to increase, then they come down, then go back up, then come back down and so on. To stop this I turn off the engine. When I immediately start the engine again, no issue at all ! If I stop and start the engine throughout the day, no issues. Next morning (or a few days later) when I first start it up, again, I get the high/low rev's. I'm new to this engine, and by no means does it look as simple to deal with as my old Mercruiser 3.1 L carburated engine. So, I'm at a loss. I am mechanically inclined/handy, so was hoping someone could help me out so I don't have to get it into a dealer. Thanks in advance -Stephen ![]() |

My 5.0 GXI does the same thing upon start-up. At first it freaked me out, but was told by my mechanic that it's normal for the fuel injected volvo engines to do that. I don't know how true that is, but it's never hurt anything. |

My 5.7 gi does the same thing. I don't have an explaination. Once it warms up the idle settles out and is find. Thought it was a vacuum leak but couldn't find one. |

Just adding to the data, I've never experienced anything like that. |

Ours started doing this a few months ago after we fueled from a marina, which I think we got something extra included with the gas! ![]() I added some Startron to the next fillup and it seems to have eliminated the rev issue, so far. I usually always add the Marine Sta Bil on each fill up, but didn't have it with us and we were in a pinch for gas. I do not know if that helps any, just what we experienced and thought I'd pass it along. |

But we did have the boat up in northern Ontario for a few weeks, and I did fill up at a marina twice, and the issue started happening shortly after the first fill up.. i wonder if I also got something extra included ! What's Startron as I have never heard of that, but have used StaBil but usually for winter layup. -Stephen |

I use Sta Bil every time I put gas into the boat and then just double it when winterize. With 10% ethonal in all gasoline, I do not want to take any chances.. http://mystarbrite.com/startron/ http://www.goldeagle.com/brands/stabil/default.aspx Another item that people have talked about but never used it myself http://www.seafoamsales.com/ |

Seafoam has worked for me in the past. Good for cleaning injectors and carbs if used correctly. It can also be used to stall motor out for winter and winterizing. |
