Last year I replaced my low pressure fuel pump because it was starting to squeel. The squeel went away with the new pump. This year it started to squeel again and I started to think that maybe the high pressure pump was failing and causing the low pressure to work too hard. So, I bought a new high pressure pump but before I could install it the low pressure pump failed and I had to get towed in. I installed the high pressure and it wouldn't start so I bought another low pressure pump and installed it, along with a new fuel filter to replace the one that is only about 2 years old. The boat started and runs good, but now the high pressure has a slight squeel coming from it.

Any opinions on something I could be missing?

The low pressure pump feeds the high pressure one, if the high one fails it wont effect the low at all, but if the low fails the high will be starved of fuel.

Now I am really confused. That doesn't explain why I have had 2 low pressure pumps fail and it started by making a lot of noise, and now the new high pressure pump is making noise.

Quite honestly I dont think I have ever seen a boat that needed more than one in a 10 year period...you do have to be very careful when they are put on because any tweaking of the top of the pump and they are junk or dont last very long.

Installation wasn't a problem and I am sure I didn't damage them. I was thinking that either the first new low pressure pump was defective and prematurely failing or the high pressure pump was failing and causing the low pressure pump to fail-not sure if this is possible but since they are 17 years old I figured I would change them both and all my problems would be solved. Now the new low pressure pump is quiet but the high pressure pump is making noise. I am baffled and frustrated since this makes no sense to me.

The pump sits near a reservoir, trying to think exactly the design on the ford block, but basically its a reservoir with a needle, seat and float in it, if the needle gets stuck and doesnt open all the way the reservoir could run low and cause the pump to be loud.
