I have a 1995 OMC 5.8L EFI and they say 255 horse. But I've heard 265 also. It doesn't really matter, it is what it is, but as a man I'd rather say it is 265

We are thinking about buying this 1989 285 Vista. It is advertised with the 5.8L but says its a 270 hp. The past product page says the 5.8 is a 235hp. That's why we were asking about it.

If it's an 89 5.8 I bet it has an OMC Cobra drive...if its the dog clutch version you can get most of the parts but make sure you have a shop that will work on OMCs because many won't anymore...OMC has been out of business for 12 years and the # of techs who know Cobras is declining...
the King Cobras with the Ford 460 are even harder to get parts for, some parts are just not available period. Same with the cone clutch on the 90-94 or so models before the Volvo joint venture Cobras (which were a Cobra transom mount with cone clutch shifting and were fine and easy to get parts for)...
I'd think twice about any boat with a OMC drivetrain, I have one, it's been good but parts are sometimes hard to find and resale will be lower than a Merc boat...

My 5.8l replacement card says 260hp.
I just destroyed the lower leg and no problem ordering and getting it fixed.
GLM Marine sells complete rebuilt parts for omc and Bombardier took over omc and still sells parts which is where my mechanic has ordered mine from.
