Post subject:  Removeong the flame arrester on a 7.4 EFI
I have a '99 Vista 258 with a 7.4 EFI. The flame arrester is mounted vertically and there is no room to remove it. Its right up against the exhaust manifold. Need to remove it to clean. Anyone else run into this?

I also have a 7.4L EFI and have removed my flame arrestor several times to clean it. Mine faces forward on the engine though. Maybe a picture would help us see your problem?

I'll try to get pictures this week end. Mine is at about 45 degrees to starboard.

Funny cuz yours should be the same as mine. I know they didn't change the design between 98 and 99. It is a Merc. right?

Sorry should have mentioned its a Volvo. Looking at my shop manuals it appears there are 2 styles of arresters, the one in the manual is flat and has the clearance to be removed. Mine is wedge shaped and does not have clearance. The manual says to remove, clean and replace. I wish it was that easy.
