Post subject:  DIY Replacing U-Joints?

I have 533.2 hours on my 99 Vista 258, 5.7 Duo-prop. I have a micro vibration when turning left. I've replaced U-joints my life over on cars/trucks and want to try to replace the U-joints on my DP-S. I plan on using the heavy duty Volvo Penta u-joints for replacements.

Has anybody else replaced their U-Joints themselves?

Hi,

They're just as easy to replace as the auto/ truck types. Depending on type fitted, you might need an internal circlip pliers. Also, your U/Js probably have angled grease nipples on them ( called "zerks" in the US I believe!). If your replacement U/Js also have them, make a careful note of their orientation on the original U/js; they have to go back in the same orientation to prevent them contacting the U/J yokes on extreme left and right turning lock.

Regards,

Graham
