Cap'n previous post go me thinking, I had the duoprop on my last boat and B3's on the current one, anybody else notice a build issue on the B3 props. I was looking at mine on Sunday when I was working on it in storage. There seems to be almost like a mineral deposit on the blades. I had noticed it on other B3 drives in the past. Now when I had the duoprops in the water for 6-8 weeks they were still nice and shiny with no buildup when I pulled the boat. The guy I bought the boat from had them polished and they looked great when I bought it. Hmmmm

Any thoughts or has anybody else noticed this?

I have Quiksilver props on my Alpha's and I had a thick layer of scale on them when I hauled in the Fall. I washed one with CLR, scrubbed with scotchbrite and then rinsed thoroughly. I noticed that now a layer of rust is forming on them so i'll have to start all over again. Next year i'm just leaving them dirty

I'm not familiar with those props, but would it help to have them polished (so there's no place for stuff to take hold)?

Polishing will help, but just a temporary fix. I clean mine with CLR, then shine em' with Buff Magic. They stay okay for about a month or so, then get dirty again. Just the nature of the BIII beast.

there are different qualities of stainless used. in general the ones they stay shiny are of a lesser strength than the ones that rust a bit. there is tons of info on the metallurgy of stainless, some of it is pretty interesting stuff.

When I was younger ( 5 years ago !) I used to get in the water and give my DPS props a scrub with a scotchbrite pad a couple of times a season. More recently, with the water temperature never going above 14 deg. C, in the "summer" I haven't bothered!

My guess is differences in the exact grade of stainless used.
for instance standard 304 stainless will corrode in a marine environment --(although less than regular steel) -- while 316 is a preferred marine grade.
